KY. STATE 1923

The State Tournament  was scheduled for August 31-Sept. 1 with an entry fee of 75 cents. 
Games were scheduled to be played to 50 points. The tourney was played at the State Fairgrounds
and won by J.W. Netherton. 

Champion- J. W. Netherton     32%
Runner-Up- Willam B. Kuper

Netherton pitched 134 single ringers and 16 double ringers in 11 games. 

Noted participants: Edward Decker, W. H. Baurer, J. G. Boes, L. E. Miller, W. S. Driven & Paul Fried..
The tournament was conducted by E. M. Merchant & the Dixie Flyers Horseshoe Club.

There are many articles an sources found that state L.P."Leonard" Soete as the 1924 Champion.

The tournament was held in Iroquois Park in Louisville, September 8-13, 1924.

L. P. Soete lost only one game, that being to Mr. Norton.
Sam Mattingly won a leather carrying case for winning 3rd.

KENTUCKY STATE TOURNAMENT 1926

Ed Beckman of Louisville won the horseshoe championship of Kentucky yesterday afternoon 
in the Kentucky State finals pitched at Third and Guthrie streets. The Tournament was held on

Playoff
Ed Beckman defeated Sam Mattingly in the playoff, 50-39 and 50-40 in two straight games. Beckman 
averaged 36% to Mattingly's 31%. The first game was a 68 shoe contest and the second lasted 66 shoes.

"MATTINGLY CAPTURES STATE SHOE HONORS". Sam Mattingly won the Kentucky State horseshoe 
pitching championship with a record of 14 games won and 2 lost, and a ringer average of 38%. Beckman and
Hagan tied for second place in the championship division and Hagan won in the playoff. The tournament was

"BECKMAN NABS STATE RINGER CHAMPIONSHIP" Edwin Beckman regained the Kentucky horseshoe 
pitching championship in the state tournament at Shawnee Park Sunday afternoon by defeating nine 
seasoned followers of the ancient pastime and suffering not one defeat. Sam Mattingly, defending titlist, who 
wrested the crown from Beckman in the 1927 tourney, recently changed his style of pitching from a
three-quarters turn to a one and a quarter and could climb no higher than third.
